Alice In Borderland Season 1
Episode No 7 Recap And Review
When Aguni shows up, the armed forces gather together and exercise their authority. They decide to take out the "useless people" and burn them in the fire outside.
As bullets pierce the once quiet corridors, militant soldiers unleash their will and begin systematically killing people and setting them on fire outside. It's an astonishing display of strength and one that shows just how corrupt people can be for a single reason.
While everyone is distracted and fighting for their lives, a fire breaks out in the basement and threatens to engulf the entire hotel. This turns out to be a ruse to throw everyone off where Niragi is ready to prey on all the innocent bystanders on the roof.
He certainly doesn't feel good about doing this, and as we see in flashbacks, he was bullied pretty badly when he was a student. Chishiya finally shows and brags about how clear he is, eventually burning him with a makeshift flamethrower. As screams pierce the air, Niragi is devastated.
Courtesy of a soldier who can no longer follow these barbaric orders, Usagi learns where Arisu is being held.
Kuina looks for clues that come in the form of super glue to reveal fingerprints on the blade. This should theoretically reveal who the real killer is. Just when they get there, a sword-wielding thug called the Final Boss is ready for them.
Kuina does her best to dodge his blows as we cut back in time and see what happened to her. Interestingly, she was a boy named Hikari before that, and has since turned into this beautiful and incredibly talented girl. After the operation, she goes back to see her mother in the hospital, who comments on how beautiful she is.
In comparison, Final Boss clearly has no future and has fully embraced this world when it comes into play. It's an interesting clash of fates that sees both of them haunted by ghosts of the past.
The Final Boss breaks the glass across the floor for prevention, but it doesn't work with Kuina. Finally, he overpowers the man, leaving him a crumpled, bloody heap on the floor.
Handing over the phone to him, Arisu talks about the purpose of this game and how it is used to play on people's emotions.
Trying to find out who's pulling the strings, Arisu turns her attention to the game master rather than the witch. This certainly seems like a fairly opportunistic time to start this game, and theorizes that it could be a deliberate ploy to pick their number.
He figures out who is responsible for killing Momoka, but is beaten by one of the soldiers on his way out the door. Arisu suddenly stands up and realizes who the witch is.
Episode Review
As all hell broke loose, these last few episodes really brought back moments from 28 Days Later. A deadly game of hide-and-seek with the infected unfolds as humanity sees its true ugliness.
If there's a gripe here, it comes from the idea surrounding knife fingerprints. Of course, you have to match the prints with the individual markings of everyone inside the hotel, and you can have trouble doing that. Still, it could just be a coo, considering Arisu figured out who was responsible.
The various flashbacks scattered throughout are a nice touch, but feel a bit pointless given that certain characters are thrown in before they make big decisions or die. For example, Kuina could have used a bit more in the earlier episodes as she is the most interesting character next to the two leads.
Still, the action in this episode was fantastic, and the intense few episodes before it definitely made up for it. How the finale will play out remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure - this conflict is far from over.
