Children and adolescents are highly affected by their overeating habit, and parents often ignore it because of the love they have for their children. It is true to an extent that they have high caloric needs due to their involvement in physical activities and nutritional needs but it is not that they have to eat so often. He told that overeating or overeating is very common in children. It has been observed that children and adolescents engaged in indoor activities like video games and using phones are more prone to binge eating disorder. If you feel like you don't have control over how much and how often your kids eat, it could be a symptom of binge eating disorder.
Tips To Control Overeating In Kids And Teens
1. Eating habits develop in children after the age of 2; This is when you as a parent need to be most careful. Overeating disorder is commonly found in children between the ages of 6-15 years and you have to make some changes to restore their health. These are some expert tips to control overeating in teenagers.
2. You need to start eating healthy meals and snacks in front of them. Children observe their surroundings, and you can be a role model for them in making the switch to healthier food choices in the first place.
3. Don't stock up on unhealthy snacks or snacks in your home. If you know that your child overeats and has a problem with binge eating, try to avoid having too many snacks. Instead, include fruits like bananas, berries and vegetables like carrots and celery in your diet.
4. Include low-fat proteins that improve their body health, add whole grains and fiber-rich foods to their meals.
5. Try to make some rules like if they complete this task, they will get this breakfast. Try to incorporate healthy snack options and gradually improve on their food choices.
6. Teach your kids about the health dangers of overeating and binge eating. Give examples and make them curious about the benefits of eating healthy food in their diet.
7. Avoid going for fast-food dining. Fast foods are generally bad for everyone's health and hence refrain your kids and yourself from eating outside. You can be creative and choose a place that offers healthy eating options.
8. Do not give them sugary drinks or drinks that contain additives. Teenagers prefer soft drinks that contain carbonated water and lots of preservatives.
9. Tell them to stop eating when they feel full. Let them go out and indulge in sports activities. This will help them burn more calories and also limit the calorie intake for that period.
10. Be rewarded for their good behavior and habits. When they eat healthy and don't overeat their food, give them small rewards to encourage them to do it more often. This can gradually improve their health status and prevent them from falling for obesity and eating disorder complications.
Is a weight loss diet healthy for kids?
Dietitians strictly recommend not putting your kids and teens on a weight loss diet. Children need plenty of nutrition and lots of work. So just pay attention to their diet, feed them healthy food. Reducing the number of calories from their diet can affect their cognitive development as well as physical development. So don't put your kids on a weight loss diet even if they are overeating.
