Top 05 People Who Were Too Pretty For Their Own Good
There is an old saying that says "beauty is a curse". Today we want to explore this concept and share with you 10 stories of people who somehow suffered because they looked too good for their own good.
1. Debrahlee Lorenzana
Until about 2010, Debrali Lorenzana worked as a commercial banker in a branch of Citibank doing all the things you would expect someone to do in her position, until one day she was fired out of nowhere. When Lorenzana inquired as to why he had been fired, he received a curt reply from his former employer, who simply stated that he had performed poorly. Lorenzana took particular offense at this, because, as far as she knew, she was anything but a model employee and had the awards and accolades to prove it.
As it turns out, the real reason Lorenzana was fired was because she was very attractive and her naturally attractive looks and personality were too distracting for her male co-workers. You may notice that absolutely nothing in that last sentence is Lorenzana's fault and is actually more indicative of his need to spank his co-workers, which is why Lorenzana's reaction is immediately Citibank. But he had to sue for sex discrimination.
According to her suit, her superiors repeatedly tell her to dress less nicely because they are inappropriate, when Lorenzana points out that she was wearing a proper women's suit for work, who can choose the most appropriate thing, they lash out at him. Being very narrow, and obviously completely oblivious to what "proper" means. When Lorenzana applies for some training so she can do her job better, the bank refuses and then tells her she is not selling enough, before all her clients are male colleagues, and she proceeds to deliver. Then, as a final insult, the bank accused Lorenzana in its official termination letter of being late to work on days when it wasn't open.
Oh boy, we bet she definitely tried to dress up for her personality, right? But I bet he wasn't as remorseful as...
2. These three unnamed handsome Arabian gentlemen.
Imagine if you went to a festival with a few friends and while you were trying to enjoy yourself someone asked you to leave because you were so pretty, you would probably laugh and thank the person for the compliment, okay? Now imagine if this person's expression didn't break and he repeated asking you to leave before pointing to the exit, you would be very angry. Amazingly, this exact scenario happened to three unknown Arab men who were visiting Saudi Arabia.
The men were reportedly told their presence was not welcome because their fully chiseled features could impress the women present, before they were banished! According to various sources, the men were told to leave by the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, which seems to be mostly responsible for making sure people aren't too sexy.
Perhaps the most disturbing thing here is that the men were just trying to enjoy the Janadriwah Heritage and Cultural Festival, a festival dedicated to celebrating how wonderful the Saudi people are.
But hey, who are we to judge, maybe these guys were really good enough to risk a riot or something. It's not like they were just told to leave because of some crazy person, it's just not...
3. Melissa Nelson
If you haven't heard the insane story of how Melissa Nelson got fired, we'll fill you in because it's a whirl. According to every article written about the story, Nelson was fired because his boss' wife thought she was too good-looking. By the way, the Iowa Supreme Court agreed that the decision is completely legal.
According to Nelson, she was only fired on the grounds that her boss, James Knight (a man twenty years her senior), might have cheated on his wife with her by mistake, you know, because the husband. Cheating on his wife is always another woman. A mistake and not a hint of anything else, and while we're at it, we can point out that Knight only employs female employees. A skeptical Nelson immediately sued to challenge the dismissal for being so stupid that calculators exploded, only, as mentioned above, the Supreme Court ruled it legal.
Yes, we live in a world where it is legal to separate a woman because you are afraid her looks might mislead your husband. We have some advice for Knight's wife, if you're worried he might cheat on you, you probably shouldn't fire every woman he works with.
The worst part here is that Nelson literally worked out in pants and a long-sleeved shirt, doesn't it sound like she'd work out in a bikini every single day? Even if it was, who cares, you can't fire someone for that, right?
4. Olivia Sprauer was totally fired for something way stupider than that.
One of the strangest things you can experience as a child is seeing your teacher outside of school, however, as you get older, hopefully the experience becomes less and less as you realize that your teacher was a person with life and passion. . Of course, we must not say that as long as the teacher has a good personality, they can do whatever they want in their spare time as long as they are professional at work.
Maybe that's what 26-year-old Olivia Sprower thought when she posed in a bikini for some modeling photos to earn a little extra cash. However, Spoor was forced to resign from her position as an English teacher at Martin County High School after Principle found the photos online. As this article rightly points out, Sprouer wasn't showing anything she wouldn't see on the beach during the summer months, but her boss found her offensive, and as a result, she asked to leave.
For some reason, no one bothered to ask why the vice principal was looking at pictures of women in bikinis during work hours, but what is it, he was just looking out for his students because we're pretty sure Spoor hates K's class. Existence of a previous form of teaching English.
5. Dilek Edwards, the girl fired for being “too cute”
Like our friend Melissa Nelson, Dalek Edwards was randomly thrown out of the blue one evening because his boss' wife thought he was too attractive. Unlike Nelson, the goofy woman who cost him his job was a former Playboy playmate named Stephanie Adams.
In this article detailing the case, Edwards receives an angry text message from his boss's wife at 1 a.m. telling him he's been fired. Like many on this list, Edwards' response was to deliver his best "are you serious" face to face about wrongful termination.
Curiously, according to Edwards, a yoga instructor by trade, Adams' husband, Charles Nicolay, specifically instructed her to keep the fact that Edwards was giving her physical therapy (aka her job) away from his wife. Secret. We don't want to repeat ourselves here, but if your husband is keeping secrets from you from the woman he's dating, you'll probably find out, don't kick the poor woman out. You didn't do anything wrong.
Speaking of which…
